Its been an unsettling week for many organic gardeners across America. The National Wildlife Federation announced that they had decided to partner with Scott's Miracle Gro, a huge chemical company. When I read the announcement online, I couldn't believe it. What did a company that sells killer chemicals like Roundup of Monsanto fame and other nasty drugs have in common with the National Wildlife Federation? I just didn't get it and neither did a lot of other people. I tuned in to the CEO of NWF as he gave a press conference and tears came to my eyes. It was so obviously all about money and nothing else.
It sure made me appreciate my pesticide free community that I live in. This is what I saw as I stood outside our city hall. These ducks have an easy life by the looks of it.
I love watching this pond near the city hall in Ladner. Its natural grassy edges make great nesting sites for the ducks.
As of November of 2010, Delta banned the use of chemical herbicides, insecticides and fungicides on all public and private property. I know we have a long way to go in educating the public but we are headed in the right direction. Please remember, nature intended the birds to do away with our pests in the garden. Lets let them do their job.

Congratulations! That's great news. I wish I got a chance to visit Ladner in the summer. I only dropped by quickly in the winter.
