My Bulbs are Up!

I finally got outside today to check out the garden. I have had a week of family emergencies and it has taken up all my time. My mom is home from the hospital now but still feeling not quite herself so if I seem to be AWOL once in awhile you know where I am. I have to take care of the person who taught me about gardening, that's for sure.

Look at this! It seems like I just planted these Narcissus and they are up already. Like many parts of the country, its been pretty mild here with temperatures well above the freezing.

I thought I would share some of the blooms from my garden along with Glenda at Tootsie Time. I was about to toss this bowl of Christmas cactus out when it started to bloom. Isn't that always the way? You threaten a plant and they start behaving.

The Primula continue to bloom as they did last month. I see more new shoots emerging so hopefully different colours will be in bloom soon.

The Viburnum bodnantense is in full bloom. I love looking at this shrub as I work in my office. It reminds me that spring is not so far away.

The winter Jasmine is blooming like crazy. I love the tiny yellow flowers. This one has been blooming all winter on bare stems which will leaf out in the spring.
It should be an interesting winter as I noticed one tiny bloom on my Forsythia this morning. The Forsythia has lots of new buds on it and it would be fun to force a few branches for inside the house.

Happy Gardening,
Kristin

  2. Some forced forsythia would be lovely. Your bulb foliage will slow down growth when it turns cold again and be fine.

I was contemplating cutting some azalea branches to try to force when they started blooming in the garden, only to be turned to ugly when the temperature fell to 23 degrees the other night. Tight buds are safe.
