Frosty Day in the Garden

Its a frosty day here on the lower mainland of British Columbia. I won't complain as the snowfall we received overnight is minimal. This dusting of snow makes it look  crisp and clean.

I took a walk and loved the way the snow iced the catkins on my hazelnut tree.

I love that the Viburnum bodnantense is still in full bloom.

This is the view from my backyard looking north. The bare bones of the plants really make the garden interesting at this time of year.

These Primula are trying hard to peek through the snow. They have been in bloom since the beginning of January.

I love this view of the waterway behind us. No ducks in the water this morning. Its below freezing so they are probably cuddled up in the tall grass nearby. This has recently become beaver territory and there are a few gnaw marks on the trees along the bank.

Doesn't the snow look lovely on the Hydrangea blooms? Its hard to believe I will be pruning them next month.
More of one of my favourite winter blooming plants. Who says you cant have flowers in January?

The winter Jasmine is very happy tucked away in a corner. It is shielded from the snow and looks quite happy blooming away outside my kitchen window. The snow fall warnings continue for this week but as I sit here I see the sun melting the snow away. It never lasts here but that's a good thing. One day of snow is all most of us wetcoasters can handle.

  1. What a beautiful home you have. I have the same viburnum blooming in my yard, it is my favourite winter shrub.
